Kinsale Arts Week 16-23 July 2005

Kinsale Arts Week 2005 will take place between July 16th and 23rd, and will include an exciting range of arts events and street entertainments including:

* The Grand Gala opening at Charles Fort, attended by the festival’s patron Jean Kennedy Smith, and concert including the Glenstal Monks.

* A major art installation at Charles Fort: designed by UK artist Tony Heywood in response to Charles Fort’s past history and local myths.

*Concerts by Red Byrd (early music) and Cara O’Sullivan

* A Caribbean carnival procession

* A programme of literary readings with Tim Severin, Desmond O’Grady, Theo Durcan and others

* The publication of ‘The Kinsale Anthology’

* A drama programme for adults and children, including Irish Stew by The Rampart Players

* Dance performances from The Irish Modern Dance Theatre and Akasha Tribal Bellydance Troupe

* A full evening programme of live rock and traditional music in the Kinsale pubs

* Pottery, printing, drumming and children’s art workshops

* An Artist Trail of open artist studios and galleries in the Kinsale area

*A large community art exhibition and art competition

Kinsale Arts Week 2005 (KAW2005) brings together the best in local artistic talent with some of the finest national and international performers Kinsale has ever seen to offer the community and the visiting public an extravaganza of creative expression encompassing music and dance, theatre, visual arts, literary work and street entertainment. This all takes place against the backdrop and with the support of the European Capital of Culture 2005 programme in Cork.
